Geography and climate
Satkhira District has an area of 3858.33 km², It is bordered to the north by Jessore District, on the south by the Bay of Bengal, to the east by Khulna District, and to the west by 24 Pargana District of West Bengal, India. The annual average maximum temperature reaches 35.5°C (95.9°F); and minimum temperature is 12.5°C (54.5°F). The annual rainfall is 1710 mm (67 in). The main rivers are the Kopotakhi river across Dorgapur union of Assasuni Upazila, Morichap River, Kholpotua River, Betna River, Raimangal River, Hariabhanga river, Ichamti river, Betrabati River and Kalindi-Jamuna River.[1]Climate

Demography
The total population of Satkhira District is 1,843,194, of which 78.08% are Muslim, 21.45% are Hindu, 0.28% are Christian, 0.01% are Buddhist and 0.18% are other religions. The population is 50.54% male and 49.46% female.The literacy movement name is Uddiptya Satkhira.
There are two hospitals, the Zila Sadar hospital and a children's hospital, as well as seven upazila health complexes.

Places of interest
The region is home to many ancient buildings and temples such as Sultanpur Shahi Mosque (500 years old). At present the most popular mangrove forest at Kaligonj Upazila is Basjharia Joarar Ban. It is popularly known as the forest of BADHA. The Joarar Ban is the cause of fiction between Bangladesh and Indian border. It is mostly popular of its natural beauty. In Satkhira there are some Picnic Sport. Among them Mozaffar Garden And Resort is the best.

The average literacy rate for males is 69.7%, and for females 61%.Educational institutions
Recently established one medical college, 79 colleges, 1 primary teachers training institute, 421 high schools, 41 junior high schools, 259 madrassas, 822 government primary schools. Health Minister Dr. A F M Ruhal Haque has inaugurated construction of Satkhira Medical College on 20 July.The construction will cost tk. 860 million and is set to be finished by 2013.Media
